PLOT: This is based on a fairly interesting true story of Marine corporal Megan Leavey. It shows her journey from when she enlisted in the army till lets say an end of an era in her life. Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) is unemployed, friendless and her mother is fed up at her living at home with her and the step-father. Leavey decides to enlist and her journey as an American Soldier begins. Of course she gets drunk with her army friends once joining and gets punished with cleaning up army dogs cells. She meats a rude and stubborn dog named Rex and she finds a way to get into the program that trains and manages the army dogs with help from Gunny Martin (Common) who is a commanding officer at her army training base. After getting her shot she eventually gets stuck with Rex and learns to love him and hate him at the same time.

SCRIPT: The script is missing some details about Megan Leavey’s actual story. It would have been nice if they hired maybe a high school version of her to show the audience a scene which would explain how she became the person she was before she enlisted. When they sneak it into the movie it gets passed by. They maybe don’t have to show it at the begining but maybe when she sleeps they could show us a dream/memory of her as a young girl.

ACTING: Good choices for the five main roles: Kate Mara as Megan Leavey, Tom Felton as Andrew Dean, Edie Falco as Jackie Leavey,  Bradley Whitford as Bob (Leavey’s father) and Common as Gunny Martin. They all had a key role to play and it was important the casting was perfect especially because it is based on a true story. It had to be believable.

MUSICNothing Special. Just exercise/training music.

Sound and Special Effects: When they went to Iraq they had to make you believe that the crowds of people rioting or complaining and the army’s trucks and weapons made certain noises and they did a good job at that. Don’t expect to see some epic army explosion this is not that type of movie.

Costume and Makeup: It was important this was done well. People know what an American soldier looks like, how they dress, haircuts, how wounds look and so much more. This is an army movie based on a person’s life and a true story it is important for these things to align with reality.

Blow (2001)

  • Overall Rating: 8 Stars
  • Plot: 8 Stars
  • Script: 7 Stars
  • Acting: 10 Stars
  • Music: 7 Stars
  • Sound Effects:  8
  • Special Effects: 8

PLOT: Blow is based on a true story about George Jung, the guy who established the cocaine market in the 70’s. Throughout the movie you go through his life in every 2-3 years between 1970-1989ish. You see the struggles he went through, the famous people he met with, and why with his ambition he didn’t think he could do anything else.

SCRIPT: The script is good. The story is told in 1st person sometimes, it makes it seem more personal.

ACTING: For those who like Johnny Depp it really is an amazing movie. If you think he’s weird, bad or anything else then I would still suggest seeing this movie. It is an educational story and Johnny Depp does a great job acting as a guy who can’t escape prison and as a drug lord kind of guy. The actors don’t really matter but props to Ray Liotta and Penélope Cruz for adding something extra to the film.

MUSICYour basic dramatic movie music nothing too spectacular but yet still pretty cool. Every song fit the scene.

Sound Effects: Nothing too crazy here but great for what they needed.

Special Effects: The scene changes and cinematography as done really well in this movie. They had him sitting around the table in one scene then behind bars one second later in the same position. Well done.
