(SPOILERS-WHY IT GOT WHAT IT GOT)

PLOT: This is based on a fairly interesting true story of Marine corporal Megan Leavey. It shows her journey from when she enlisted in the army till lets say an end of an era in her life. Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) is unemployed, friendless and her mother is fed up at her living at home with her and the step-father. Leavey decides to enlist and her journey as an American Soldier begins. Of course she gets drunk with her army friends once joining and gets punished with cleaning up army dogs cells. She meats a rude and stubborn dog named Rex and she finds a way to get into the program that trains and manages the army dogs with help from Gunny Martin (Common) who is a commanding officer at her army training base. After getting her shot she eventually gets stuck with Rex and learns to love him and hate him at the same time.

SCRIPT: The script is missing some details about Megan Leavey’s actual story. It would have been nice if they hired maybe a high school version of her to show the audience a scene which would explain how she became the person she was before she enlisted. When they sneak it into the movie it gets passed by. They maybe don’t have to show it at the begining but maybe when she sleeps they could show us a dream/memory of her as a young girl.

ACTING: Good choices for the five main roles: Kate Mara as Megan Leavey, Tom Felton as Andrew Dean, Edie Falco as Jackie Leavey,  Bradley Whitford as Bob (Leavey’s father) and Common as Gunny Martin. They all had a key role to play and it was important the casting was perfect especially because it is based on a true story. It had to be believable.

MUSICNothing Special. Just exercise/training music.

Sound and Special Effects: When they went to Iraq they had to make you believe that the crowds of people rioting or complaining and the army’s trucks and weapons made certain noises and they did a good job at that. Don’t expect to see some epic army explosion this is not that type of movie.

Costume and Makeup: It was important this was done well. People know what an American soldier looks like, how they dress, haircuts, how wounds look and so much more. This is an army movie based on a person’s life and a true story it is important for these things to align with reality.

Wonder Woman (2017)

RATING CATEGORIES:

  • Overall Rating: 8 Stars
  • Plot: 8 Stars
  • Script: 7 Stars
  • Acting: 8 Stars
  • Music: 7 Stars
  • Sound and Special Effects: 8 Stars
  • Costumes and Makeup: 10 Stars

(SPOILERS-WHY IT GOT WHAT IT GOT)

PLOT:  Before even gaining the title Wonder Woman she had to become the woman she is. The movie shows her as a child. She was fierce and ready to learn how to fight. The only problem was that she was a princess to the Amazons. As she grew up she learned about her history and the battle her mother was apart of before she was born. One day an undercover american pilot named Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes a plane through their invisible fortress and almost drowns. When Princess Diana/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) saves him. Since she grew up on an island of all women she never saw a man before and asked him about where he came from. He said he came from an endless war, the worst war ever, a war to end all wars. Diana jumps to the conclusion that it is Eris-God of War/Son of Zeus returning to kill and take revenge on man kind once again.

SCRIPT: The script is basic. Don’t look for it to be funny, it’s not a funny Marvel movie! DC has always tried to aim for drama and great action. There are some funny scenes but it is the actors who portray the comedy not really the script.

ACTING: All the actors were terrific the supporting cast was very good. They weren’t all the most recognizable faces but they really did a good job in this movie. There are some mixed reviews however on Danny Huston who plays Ludendorff and Elena Anaya who plays Dr. Maru due to very comic book/overly fictional roles and accents.

MUSICGood classic score music with the Wonder Woman theme we already heard in Batman V. Superman when she first appears in the final battle.

Sound and Special Effects: The sound effects in this movie are mainly swords thrashing against another and WWI military noises. The airplane sound effects sound real and go well in the big crashes and war scenes in the movie. Some of the dessert and airplane scenes look a little fake but it only lasts a couple seconds so it might not matter to most.

Costume and Makeup: Really nice costumes in this film. Besides Wonder Woman’s costume and the beautiful person wearing it the army costumes they had to create were terrific. They made a beautiful depiction of 1914-1918 British clothing and England. You also can’t forget about those Amazons. The clothes, weaponry, tiaras, horse saddles, and building design was unbelievable but yet not too comic book like.

Blow (2001)

RATING CATEGORIES:

  • Overall Rating: 8 Stars
  • Plot: 8 Stars
  • Script: 7 Stars
  • Acting: 10 Stars
  • Music: 7 Stars
  • Sound Effects:  8
  • Special Effects: 8

(SPOILERS-WHY IT GOT WHAT IT GOT)

PLOT: Blow is based on a true story about George Jung, the guy who established the cocaine market in the 70’s. Throughout the movie you go through his life in every 2-3 years between 1970-1989ish. You see the struggles he went through, the famous people he met with, and why with his ambition he didn’t think he could do anything else.

SCRIPT: The script is good. The story is told in 1st person sometimes, it makes it seem more personal.

ACTING: For those who like Johnny Depp it really is an amazing movie. If you think he’s weird, bad or anything else then I would still suggest seeing this movie. It is an educational story and Johnny Depp does a great job acting as a guy who can’t escape prison and as a drug lord kind of guy. The actors don’t really matter but props to Ray Liotta and Penélope Cruz for adding something extra to the film.

MUSICYour basic dramatic movie music nothing too spectacular but yet still pretty cool. Every song fit the scene.

Sound Effects: Nothing too crazy here but great for what they needed.

Special Effects: The scene changes and cinematography as done really well in this movie. They had him sitting around the table in one scene then behind bars one second later in the same position. Well done.

Gifted (2017)

RATING CATEGORIES:

  • Overall Rating: 8 Stars
  • Plot: 8 Stars
  • Script: 7 Stars
  • Acting: 9 Stars
  • Music: 6 Stars
  • Sound Effects:  N/A
  • Special Effects: N/A

(SPOILERS-WHY IT GOT WHAT IT GOT)

PLOT: Gifted is about a sweet young girl who is raised by her uncle. The uncle Frank Adler (Chris Evans) raised her because his sister killed herself. As you watch the movie it eventually gets revealed why. Frank eventually says though his niece is a genius he knows that his sister would want her to have a normal life which where Mary Adler’s (Mckenna Grace) journey begins. It deals with the struggles of a genius child in a regular public school, the problems families face who have someone who committed suicide and so much more. There is some funny parts but overall the film is a drama and you will probably want to cry during some point near the end.

SCRIPT: The script is good. The conversations the characters have are very realistic. They got all the information of the characters in the movie out naturally. The comedy is well placed and the sad parts are done tastefully.

ACTING: Chris Evans can play so many different types of people as we’ve seen throughout his career such as a reckless college student trying to find his place in the world in The Perfect Score (2004), an obnoxious superhero in Fantastic Four (2005), all the way to a mature american soldier/superhero in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) but he is in his late 30’s now which means he has to learn to play the mature roles just as well as the funny and childish roles and he does it very well in the movie Gifted. Mckenna Grace who plays the young and smart Mary Adler has appeared in the famous TV shows The Young and the Restless and Designated Survivor so she is not new to the acting scene. You could see she is already a mature actress and maybe in time she will get an Oscar. The movie features Oscar Winner Octavia Spencer who plays Roberta Taylor the friendly landlord of Frank Adler but she does not joke when it comes to matters of Mary. She is the best person to play this role. Lindsay Duncan who plays Frank’s mother Evelyn and Jenny Slate who plays Mary’s teacher Bonnie could have been played by anyone sort of famous though both crucial parts in the movie and they still did a decent job due to chemistry with Mckenna and Chris.

MUSICThe music in this movie sets the tone for the happy and sad parts but mostly its the actors who take care of that in this movie.

The Fate of the Furious 2017

RATING CATEGORIES:

  • Overall Rating: 8 Stars

  • Script: 8 Stars
  • Acting: 7 Stars
  • Music: 7 Stars
  • Sound Effects: 8 Stars
  • Special Effects: 9 Stars

(SPOILERS-WHY IT GOT WHAT IT GOT)

PLOT: In The Fate of the Furious this time 1 of them goes rogue. Obviously it has to be their leader Dom (Vin Diesel) due to the blond bitch Cipher (Charlize Theron). It all starts when she says to him I got dirt on you, you don’t want getting out. Then of course that’s where it gets furious. A little week I think they could of had a better plot line for their 8th maybe incorporating more of what they did do right for this movie Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) vs Deckard (Jason Statham). As the two biggest haters join forces to stop the fastes and the most furious of all Dom.

SCRIPT: Besides the fact it should have been called The Feight of the Furious or F8 of the Furious you’re getting great jokes from Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris with surprisingly some hilarious parts from Jason Statham. Besides them classic jokes like “We Got a Tank” and everybody hating on Roman (Tyrese Gibson) especially Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) it’s hard to say if this is a money grab action sequel or a do right by the Franchise while making money movie. Either way it didn’t matter about the name or the script they made a shit tone.

ACTING: Everybody is just themselves from previous Fast and the Furious movies and even other stuff you’d seen them in. If you love an actor or a character you’ll see this movie just for the enjoyment of seeing that actor or character. The cars get the Oscar though because without the cars the film would just be jacked dudes and comedians talking shit to eachother.

MUSICWith songs inspired by the movie and songs made for the movie. It is perfect! They know how the music should portray the movie and how the movie should potray the music. Though I wish they used Wiz Khalifa again for the main theme they still have another song done by him. have The song they chose is very good “Good Life” by G-Eazy & Kehlani.

Sound Effects: Maybe over exaggerated. I mean but still done better than a lot of other movies with cars that go really fast. Do we know what a Tank or Submarine should sound like?

Special Effects: Great maybe repetitive or over used ones but hey they have the money to make things go boom shicka bing bang boom booooom bliffboom baboom kaboom boom when they maybe could of went boom kaboom boom with fire.

For the second Marvel show to hits Netflix it did surprisingly well. Not a lot of people knew anything about the character or any aliases of the characters in the show.

The show did a great job of portraying the consequences that come with being a superhero and it isn’t all about saving the day, its also about the difference between revenge and justice. The best part of the cast and the characters are seeing Luke Cage getting introduced and seeing David Tennant back at it again playing another extraordinary gifted character just like his past roles as the 10th Doctor in Doctor Who and Barty Crouch Jr. form Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

One of the biggest problems with the show is it appears to be a buffer between Daredevil and Luke Cage but eventually you get over that and you just want to know what happens with the storyline.

Some say its better than Daredevil Season 1 though I disagree.
